Emily S. Smith

Emily S. Smith is an author and Early Childhood Teacher who divides her time between educating children in a long day care setting, being an awesome aunt to her young nephews and niece, and writing stories that will entertain and engage children of all ages, from 2 to 102.

From a very young age, Emily was always making up stories. As a young child, she used to spend hours creating very in-depth “Bold and the Beautiful-esque” plays with her Barbies, re-enacting Disney classics, and escaping to her own imaginary worlds (they were so much more interesting than her own rather normal life). This love of drama and storytelling continued on as she excelled in high school in Drama and English (her two favourite subjects), where she loved being able to create stories that engaged and entertained.

Emily went on to earn a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies degree (Honours) from the University of Newcastle in 2006 and has been working in Early Childhood Education ever since. Throughout the thousands of hours spent engaging with children, Emily has learned several things: 1) children love to laugh 2) gross things are hilarious, and 3) children love a bit of drama, especially if it’s someone else getting in trouble! She brings this knowledge to the stories she writes.

Emily has presented at schools, libraries, bookstores and daycare centres, sharing her stories with children of all ages. She relishes in sharing her love of reading, writing and creating, connecting with children who are the heart of everything she does.

Emily lives in an old Victorian mansion with 8 human housemates, one dog, and a ghost…. woooooh!
